We left out user counts and star ratings. Those numbers are either self-reported or impossible to verify from outside, and they tell you little about what your first call will feel like.

Each site, briefly
Chatroulette
The name most people remember. It describes itself as the original free random video chat, created in 2009, and it pairs you with a stranger for a one-on-one call without an account. The homepage states that it's 18+, lists AI and human moderation as its safety approach, and offers apps on the App Store and Google Play alongside the website. Extras run on an in-app currency.

Chatrandom
A browser-based cam chat where pressing Start is how you confirm you're 18 or older and accept the terms. No sign-up. The chat screen has gender and country filters, report and block options with listed reasons, and a paid Plus tier that unlocks extra features. There's also an Android app.

Emerald Chat
The one on this list that wants an account first. You sign up with an email and password, then stay anonymous to other users behind a username. In exchange you get more than video: text chat, interest matching and group channels. Its terms set the minimum age at 18. It has official apps as well as the website, and free access with optional premium features.

Joingy
Minimal and browser-only. You choose between text-only chat and 1-on-1 video, and you don't register. Its rules say every user must be at least 18. Reporting works a little differently from the others: you press "Flag Spam" after you disconnect from someone.

VideoMatch
Ours. Random 1-on-1 video only, no text rooms. There's no sign-up form, because a guest identity is created automatically; your browser asks for camera and microphone on the match screen. It's 18+, and the community guidelines rule out nudity and sexual acts on calls while allowing flirting and grown-up conversation. Report and block sit on every call. If you want zero setup
Chatroulette, Chatrandom, Joingy and VideoMatch all let you start without an email. Try two and keep the one whose matches you enjoy.
If you like typing
Emerald Chat or Joingy. Both have text modes. VideoMatch doesn't.
If you mostly use a phone
If you'd rather not install anything, stick to sites that work in the mobile browser. If apps don't bother you, Chatroulette and Emerald Chat both publish them.
If rules matter to you
Read the guidelines page before your first call, whichever site you choose. Look for a stated age limit, what's banned on camera, and where the report button lives.

Which 18+ random chat sites let you start without an account?
When we checked in September 2026, Chatroulette, Chatrandom and Joingy all said no sign-up was needed, and VideoMatch creates a guest identity automatically. Emerald Chat asks for an email and password.
Are these sites free?
All five are free to start. Several also sell optional extras: Chatroulette has an in-app currency, Chatrandom has a paid Plus tier, Emerald Chat has premium features and VideoMatch has coins and VIP.
Do these sites allow nudity?
Check each site's own rules before you start. On VideoMatch, nudity and sexual acts on calls are not allowed; the platform is 18+ and allows flirting and adult conversation.
Which ones offer text chat as well as video?
Emerald Chat and Joingy both offer text chat alongside video. VideoMatch is video-only 1-on-1.
Which sites work without installing an app?
